You’re Not Behind. You’re Just Getting Started. For the NICU Moms.

I need to talk to the moms who feel like they missed their window.

The ones who spent months — maybe years — in a hospital watching their baby fight for their life, and somewhere in the middle of all that fear and exhaustion and love, they watched the world keep moving without them. They watched other people launch businesses, build audiences, hit milestones. And they thought: I’m so far behind. I’ll never catch up.

I was that mom.

My son was in the NICU and during that season I was not building anything. I was surviving. I was praying at a bedside and running on hospital coffee and trying to hold my family together with both hands. Building a business was the last thing on my mind.

But here is what I want you to know now, on the other side of that season: you are not behind. You were not wasting time. You were becoming someone with a story powerful enough to help other people.

What the NICU taught me about building

The NICU teaches you things no business course ever could. It teaches you patience — real patience, not the kind you perform but the kind that gets forged in waiting rooms at 3am. It teaches you to focus on what actually matters and let go of everything that doesn’t. It teaches you that strength is not loud. Sometimes strength is just showing up one more day.

Those are the exact qualities that make a great entrepreneur. The patience to build something that takes time. The focus to say no to distractions and yes to what matters. The quiet resilience to keep going when the results are slow and the doubt is loud.

You didn’t lose those years. You built something inside yourself that most people never develop.

You are not starting over — you are starting with more

I hear moms say “I’m starting from scratch” and I want to gently push back on that. You are not starting from scratch. You are starting with lived experience that connects you to other moms in a way that no polished influencer ever could.

When you share your story — the real one, the NICU one, the I-almost-lost-everything one — people feel it. They save it. They share it. They follow you because you are not performing strength. You actually have it.

That is your competitive advantage. Not your follower count. Not how long you’ve been posting. Your story.

Where to start when you feel behind

  1. Stop comparing your beginning to other people’s middles
  2. Pick one platform and one strategy and commit to it
  3. Tell your real story instead of a polished version of it
  4. Give yourself permission to be imperfect and visible at the same time

That is it. No magic formula. Just showing up honestly and consistently.

The best time to start was five years ago. The second best time is today.

A message from one NICU mom to another

Your baby fought for their life and you were right there fighting with them. You are tougher than you know. You are more resourceful than you give yourself credit for. And the business you are about to build is going to carry that same energy — the energy of someone who knows what it means to keep going when things get hard.

You are not behind. You are right on time.
