Stop Apologizing for Taking Up Space
A devotional for the woman who was made to be seen, not shrunk
📖 Scripture
“You are the light of the world. A town built on a hill cannot be hidden. Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl. Instead they put it on its stand, and it gives light to everyone in the house.” – Matthew 5:14-15
✨ Today’s Truth
How many times this week did you apologize for things that don’t need apologies?
“Sorry to bother you, but…” “Sorry, can I just add…” “Sorry for speaking up…” “Sorry to take up your time…” “Sorry for asking for what I deserve…”
Stop. Apologizing. For. Existing.
You’re not bothering anyone by advocating for yourself. You’re not being “too much” by showing up boldly. You’re not taking up too much space by building multiple businesses, chasing big goals, and refusing to play small. You’re not being selfish by prioritizing your family AND your ambition.
God didn’t create you to SHRINK. He created you to SHINE. He didn’t give you that vision, that drive, that strategic mind, that leadership ability so you could dim it down to make other people comfortable.
You are THE light of the world. Not “a” light. Not “one of many insignificant lights.” THE light. And lights don’t apologize for SHINING. They don’t dim themselves because someone else is struggling with their own darkness.
When you shrink, you’re not being humble. You’re hiding what God meant to be seen. When you apologize for your success, you’re not being gracious. You’re rejecting the blessing God gave you. When you play small to avoid making others uncomfortable, you’re not being kind. You’re being DISOBEDIENT.
💪 Your Moment
Today, take up space. UNAPOLOGETICALLY.
Speak up in that meeting without prefacing it with “sorry.” State your price without apologizing for your worth. Post that content without worrying if it’s “too much.” Set that boundary without softening it with unnecessary explanations. Celebrate your win without downplaying it.
You were made to be SEEN. To be HEARD. To be INFLUENTIAL. To take up EXACTLY the amount of space God designed you for.
Stop shrinking. Stop apologizing. Stop hiding your light under a bowl.
SHINE. Boldly. Unapologetically. On purpose.
🙏 Prayer
God, forgive me for all the times I’ve apologized for being exactly who You created me to be. Help me stop shrinking to make others comfortable. Give me the confidence to take up space, to shine bright, to speak up, and to show up FULLY. Let me be unapologetically excellent, unapologetically ambitious, unapologetically ME. I’m not hiding my light anymore. I’m putting it on a stand. Let it SHINE. Amen.
Stop apologizing for taking up space. You were made to shine. So SHINE.
