I want to say something that might be controversial: your email list is more valuable than your social media following.
I know. TikTok is exciting. Pinterest is growing. Instagram feels important. But none of those platforms are yours. The algorithm can change overnight. Your account can be suspended. The platform can lose popularity. And you lose everything. Your email list? That is yours. Forever. No algorithm. No gatekeeping. Direct access to the people who chose to hear from you.
The simple email marketing setup for beginners
Step 1 — Choose your tool. Kit (formerly ConvertKit) is my recommendation for mompreneurs. It is beginner-friendly, has a generous free plan, and is built specifically for creators.
Step 2 — Create one opt-in incentive. Give people a reason to join your list. A free guide, a checklist, a resource, a challenge. Keep it simple — one page of genuine value is enough to start.
Step 3 — Set up a welcome sequence. When someone joins your list, what happens next? Set up an automated sequence of three to five emails that introduces you, delivers your opt-in incentive, and begins building the relationship.
Step 4 — Send a weekly newsletter. Consistency builds trust. Pick a day, pick a format, and show up in your subscribers’ inboxes every week. The habit matters more than the length.
Step 5 — Include one call to action per email. Every email should have one clear next step for the reader. Visit the blog post. Watch the YouTube video. Check out the product. One action — not five.
How to grow your list with Pinterest
Create pins that link directly to your email opt-in page. Use your most compelling opt-in incentive as the pin content. “Free guide for moms who want to start making money online — grab it here” as a pin description, linked to your Kit landing page, running on Pinterest every week, will build your list on autopilot.
